CUT SANDSTONES
NATURAL STONE
Description
Sandstones are clastic sedimentary rocks formed in marine, river or from wind environments. They are formed from cemented grains that may either be fragments of a pre-existing rock or be mono-minerallic crystals containing mainly quartz, calcite, mica and feldspar. Usually fine, less than 2 mm in diameter, sandstones cement or matrix represents less than 15 % of the total material. In response to the mineralogical composition of the particles larger than 50 micrometers, distinguishing percentages of quartz, feldspar and other minerals and fragments of rock, sandstones are divided into the following forms: Quartz arenites, feldspathic arenites, lithic arenites and Arkose.
