IRREGULAR MARBLES
NATURAL STONE
Description
Marble is a metamorphic rock that originates from limestone (or dolomite). Since this rock is very abundant in the crust, marble is too, and is also very variable. In general, marble is harder than limestone, it’s grain is much finer, and its appearance, smoother. It can be polished to get very bright and silky surfaces, so it has always been considered a rock of great interest for art and decoration.
During this metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone. Metamorphism causes variable recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. The resulting marble rock is typically composed of an interlocking mosaic of carbonate crystals. This is the cause of the very particular aspect of the marble texture.
