IRREGULAR TRAVERTINES
NATURAL STONE
Description
Travertine is a form of limestone that is porous and clear yellowish in colour. Formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, It was frequently used in ancient Rome as an ornamental stone in construction, for interior and exterior. The components of travertine are calcite and gypsum, although 99% of the minerals that make it are colourless. The porous texture is due in part to the gas bubbles that frequently remain caught between the caps of stone creating spherical hollows. The result is a natural soft stone with an elegant aspect. Thanks to it’s natural characteristics, travertine is a very versatile material: it is often used for basins of natural stone, also for walls and floors both interior and exterior. Travertine is available in three finishes : natural, which preserves the porosity of the natural stone and its appearance is rustic. In this case, it is recommended for exterior installations. The most beautiful finishes are the polished and matte contributing to the stones brightness. The Surface is sealed with a special paste to increase its durability.
